Titer Testing

Are you worried about over-vaccinating your dog? Wondering if he really is immune to parvovirus? Or worried about giving a vaccine because of cancer or other health issues?

Are you unable to find a veterinary hospital that offers titer testing?

We can help! We offer laboratory titer testing, utilizing the Kansas State Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory. The core vaccine testing panel includes canine distemper virus, adenovirus, and parvovirus. A rabies titer is also available, but please be aware that at this time it is not accepted as an alternative to vaccination in most jurisdictions. Please note that titers through our program are NOT intended for international travel.

Step 1: Fill out the patient form fully and completely for the lab to process your sample. Be sure your complete address is provided. Provide exact dates, not just month and year. Be sure to press the submit button BEFORE proceeding to payment.

Step 2: Choose the titer test(s) you want below, and make payment.

To submit a sample, have your veterinarian collect a blood sample and separate the serum for submission. You will need at least 2 milliliters of serum. After drawing the sample, it needs 10 minutes or so to clot, and then is centrifuged to separate the serum from the blood cells. Ask your veterinarian to give you the serum in a plain or serum separator tube. Expect to pay a fee for the collection and preparation of the sample. Store the sample in your refrigerator prior to shipping. Plan to ship early in the week, and within a week of receiving your shipping label.

Clearly label the tube with your name, your dog’s name, and the date.

Test requests are normally processed on Fridays by 3 PM Eastern time. We recommend scheduling your dog’s blood sample collection AFTER you have received the email with your dog’s submission form, which you will print and enclose with your shipment. You will also receive an email to print a free UPS label. Wrap the tube in a paper towel or bubble wrap, and place it in a zipper seal sandwich bag. Place it in a small box, with appropriate packing materials and your form. No ice pack is required. Affix the provided UPS label, and drop off at a UPS Store or shipping facility at the beginning of the week. Visit UPS.com for locations near you.

Results from the lab will be sent to you via email in about 2 weeks for DAP titers from when the lab receives your sample. Rabies titers are currently taking about 4 weeks, and at times longer. Please provide your veterinarian with a copy of your results. Please note, we are not able to provide advice on your results, or any veterinary services, unless your dog is an active, current patient. The titer service is provided as a “laboratory-only” service for non-patients. We encourage and recommend you discuss your dog’s results with your regular veterinarian in making decisions about your dog’s medical care.

Fill out the submission form below. If you do not include your full address, including state and zip code, your request will be rejected! Do not rely on autofill! Press the submit button before proceeding! Incomplete forms will delay receiving your label and printable submission form.

Please allow at least 24 hours for a response to emails, as email hours are limited to 2:00 – 4:30 PM Monday through Thursday and the volume of calls and emails is often large.
